I began my practice as a lawyer in 1991 in the State Capitol of Wisconsin. In the Capitol, I worked
with the Legislature as well as the Executive Branch. From 1991-1993, I served as the Assistant
and Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Tommy G. Thompson. During law school, I also clerked at
the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Since leaving the Capitol in 1993, I have worked as an attorney for several medium-sized Madison
law firms as well as Family Dollar stores in Charlotte, NC. In 2006, I also helped establish, with
Green Bay Packer Jerry Kramer and Chicago Bears Mike Ditka, Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, Inc.,
a non-profit organization that assists retired NFL players and their families in need.
Since 1993, I have focused my practice on business, real estate, and estate planning. I have more
recently begun working in the probate area. I have considerable experience in the areas of business, contract, banking, real estate, estate planning, tax, non-profit, entertainment, and related litigation.
I also work, and have worked, in areas such as employment law, intellectual property, trademarks,
trade secret, licensing, government contracting (CRADA), and Work-For-Others, and other
agreements with national laboratories such as Sandia and Argonne National Laboratory. I focus
on start-ups as well as long-standing businesses. My clients work in many fields including, but not
limited to manufacturing, restaurants, software development, aviation, trucking and equipment, hospitality, banking, financial services, health services, real estate development and more.
My practice is diverse, ranging from matters such as simple real estate purchases/sales to complicated mixed-use developments; simple business set-ups to mergers, business sales and acquisitions, contracts (domestic and international), franchise law, tax issues, fair dealership law, and acquisitions and family business planning.
